Let the age of the husband and wife at the time of marriage is $x$ years and $y$ years respectively.

Now, $\dfrac{x+y}{2} = 23$

$\implies x + y = 46 \quad\rightarrow (1)$

After five years they have a one year old child.

$\therefore$ The required ratio $= \dfrac{(x+5)+(y+5)+1}{3} = \dfrac{x+y+11}{3} = \dfrac{57}{3} = 19$ years.

So, the correct answer is $(D).$
