14.28% = 1/7

Let us suppose that markup price is 9x. After discount, SP becomes 8x

It is given that after making the discount, the trader makes gain of 14.28%. So, the CP becomes 7x

Thus, he mark his goods 2/7 i.e. 28.56% above CP
