length of the train=250m

s=50km/hr   =  50*5/18=13.89m/s

t= length of the train / speed

t=250/13.89m/s

Convert speed to m/s:

$$50 \text{ km/hr} = 50 \times \frac{1000}{3600} = 50 \times \frac{5}{18} = \frac{250}{18} \text{ m/s}$$

Time to pass pole:

$$t = \frac{\text{Distance}}{\text{Speed}} = \frac{250}{\frac{250}{18}} = 250 \times \frac{18}{250} = 18 \text{ seconds}$$

Answer: 18 seconds
